Bio

Thats the bottom line, 'cause Stone Cold says so! His real name is Steve Williams and was born on 12/18/64. He learned his wrestling skills in Texas at Gentleman Chris Adams wrestling school in his home state of Texas. He later married Chris Adam's wife soon after her and Chris divorced.

He came to WCW in 1991 as Stunning Steve Austin. He quickly captured the WCW(formerly the NWA) TV title in 1992, defeating veteran Barry Windham. A year later, he defeated Dustin Rhodes to claim the WCW U.S. championship. He lost the title, but regained it by against Ricky "the Dragon" Steamboat. He then teamed up with "Flying" Brian Pillman. Known as the "Hollywood Blondes," Austin and Pillman beat Ricky Steamboat and "The Franchise" Shane Douglas to win the WCW tag team belts.

Irreverent and obnoxious, they had all the fans hating them. His rise to the top has been derailed several times by injuries. Because of this, WCW terminated his contract with him over the phone. He went to ECW and honed his "Nasty S.O.B." persona. After becoming a star at ECW, he decided to jump to the WWF in 1995. He was the ringmaster, managed by the Million Dollar Man, Ted Dibiase. When DiBiase left the WWF and Austin, Steve adopted the name that would make him famous, Stone Cold.

In 1996, he defeated Jake "The Snake" Roberts to become King of the Ring. Mocking Jake, a christian that constantly quoted John 3:16, he came up with his signature slogan. Austin stated "you talk about Psalms, you talk about John 3:16... well Austin 3:16 says I just whipped your ass!" Later that year he suffered a major neck injury due to a piledriver by Brett "The Hitman" Hart, he was almost paralyzed.

In 1997, he won the WWF tag titles with The Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels and then again with Mick Foley. He next won the WWF World Heavyweight belt by defeating Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania XV. In 1999, his neck was reinjured and he had to take a year off. He has now recaptured the title, although he is hated again.

Out of the blue and with his marriage to Debra falling apart, Stone Cold left the WWE in the summer of 2002. We have heard all kinds of rumors but we suspect this was a situation with Vince McMahon, similar to the Brett Hart fiasco. It was no secret that Austin was unhappy with the "entertainment" direction Vince is taking the company. We suspect that Vince was planning to screw Austin the way he did Brett and Stone Cold wasn't going to play that game. It's a shame, Stone Cold did as much for the WWF as Hulk did and was a better wrestler.

In April 2003, Austin returned to the ring, not as a wrestler but as the co-General Manager of the Raw brand. Austin and his fellow co GM Eric Bischoff clashed as they both tried to run Raw as they saw fit. Even after being "fired" as co General Manager, Austin remained as a special "Sheriff" before refereeing the Brock Lesnar-Goldberg match in Wrestlemania XX.

History repeated itself after Wrestlemania XX as Austin and the WWE were once again on the outs, and Austin left the organization. Nearly a year later, it was announced that Austin, who had appeared in episodes of "Nash Bridges", had signed a three picture deal with WWE films.

Although still with WWE, Austin would disappear until WWE's Homecoming on USA Network. With Vince McMahon gloating over getting the better of Austin on a few occassions during their feud in the late 90s, Austin arrived to take exception and stunned not only Vince, Shane, Stephanie and even Linda McMahon. Austin's actions would, in turn, lead to Jim "JR" Ross being fired. Austin was supposed to battle the Coach at Taboo Tuesday, with the stipulation being that Ross would be reinstated as an announcer if Austin won, only to quit the company again when he learned that he was supposed to lose to the Coach.

Austin occasionally shows up for cameos and to drink a few beers and as an occasional referee. He introduced Brett Hart for his induction into the WWE Hall of Fame.
