Tom Barrasso

Tom Barrasso entered the NHL for the 1983-84 season as an 18 year old, going straight from high school to the Buffalo Sabres. In his rookie season, Barrasso won the Vezina Trophy as the leagues best netminder and the Calder Trophy as the top rookie. Just after the start of the 1988-89 season, Barrasso was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Pittsburgh's powerful offense needed some defensive help and having Barrasso in the crease was a major piece of the championship puzzle for the Penguins. In 1991 and 1992 Pittsburgh won the Stanley Cup, due in large part to Barrasso's outstanding play in the net. Barrasso later became the first American born goalie to win 300 career NHL games.

Chicago Blackhawks New Era NHL League Ace

Ed Belfour

Ed Belfour will go down in history as one of the premier goaltenders ever to play in the NHL. In September, 1987 Belfour, nicknamed "Eddie the Eagle" was signed by the Blackhawks to a free-agent contract. Belfour won the starting job at Chicago's training camp and was the team's workhorse, playing in 74 games, winning 43. He was also rewarded with a spot on the Team Canada roster for the 1991 Canada Cup. Belfour did not disappoint in 1991-92, where he helped the Blackhawks advance all the way to the Stanley Cup finals before losing to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Belfour moved on to the Dallas Stars where he played for five years, and led the organization to its first Stanley Cup title in 1999, beating the Buffalo Sabres in the finals. Belfour remained the Stars' number one netminder through the 2000-02 season. Belfour was a member of Canada's gold medal winning team at the Salt Lake City Olympics. Belfour wears number 20 as a tribute to former Russian goaltending great Vladislav Tretiak, who coached Belfour in Chicago in the 1990s. The Eagle is married and now makes his home in Toronto. He is very active in the children's Make A Wish Foundation and donates tickets to the charity for each home game at the Air Canada Centre. At the end of the 2002-03 season, Eddie had 401 wins, plus 86 more in the playoffs with a career GAA of just over 2. Next stop, Hall of Fame!.

Brian Bellows

Born in St. Catharines, Ontario, Bellows played junior hockey with the Kitchener Rangers and led them to a Memorial Cup championship. In 1982 Bellows entered the NHL after being drafted second overall by the Minnesota North Stars. Bellows joined the Montreal Canadiens in 1992. He had scored 342 goals in 10 seasons with Minnesota before he was traded to Montreal for Russ Courtnall. He stayed three years and included his first Stanley Cup in 1993. After his tenure in Montreal, Bellows was traded to Tampa Bay and then Anaheim. His final two years in the NHL saw him suit up with for the Washington Capitals and part of the 1997-98 season in Berlin. His career high was 55 goals in one season, but he had other seasons of 40 goals or more. He played over 1,000 games and finished with over 1,000 points.

Bryan Berard

The native of Woonsocket, Rhode Island scored 47 points in 32 games at Mount St. Charles Academy in 1993-94 before heading to the OHL. He enjoyed two stellar years with the Detroit Whalers/Junior Red Wings and helped the club reach the Memorial Cup in 1995. His accolades included being named the Top Rookie in the CHL in 1995 and being selected to the OHL and CHL First All-Star teams in 1995 and 1996. Following the 1995 season Berard was chosen first overall by the Ottawa Senators but could not come to terms with the team. He returned to junior and was named the CHL Defenceman-of-the-Year. The talented blueliner also played for the U.S. at the 1995 and 1996 World Junior Championships. After scoring 48 points in 1996-97, Berard was presented the Calder Trophy. He helped the Maple Leafs reach the semifinals in 1999 and was a much-improved defenceman the next year. A major eye injury from a high stick has slowed him down and he is currently with the Boston Bruins.

Colorado Avalanche Reebok NHL Hat Trick

Rob Blake

A native of Simcoe, Ontario, he opted to attend Bowling Green University, and in 1987-88, following his second year, he was selected 70th overall by Los Angeles in the NHL's entry draft. He flourished playing on the same line as Gretzky with his offensive talent and his superb shot, which became an integral part of the Los Angeles powerplay that Gretzky orchestrated. An early highlight of Blake's career came during the 1993 playoffs when the team, led by Gretzky, made it to the Stanley Cup finals. Blake had a chance to successfully represent Canada internationally on many occasions, each time happily taking advantage of the honor and experience. He played at the World Championships in 1991, 1994, 1997 and 1998, winning a gold medal on the 1994 and 1997 teams and a silver in 1991. He also played in the World Cup in 1996, and was key to Canada's defense at the Nagano Olympics in 1998, where he was named the best defenseman in the tournament. Since then, he asked for and got a trade, to Colorado, and won a Stanley Cup with the Avs in the spring of 2001 and capturing a Gold Medal at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah as a member of Canada's Olympic Team. Blake continues to anchor the Colorado blueline and hopes to help lead the Avs back to Stanley Cup Final in 2003.

Mike Bossy

In the Amateur Draft of 1977, 12 teams gave preference to other players. The New York Rangers and Toronto Maple Leafs did this twice. Only the New York Islanders made him their first choice, 15th overall. Coach Al Arbour placed him on the same line as two other up-and-coming stars - Bryan Trottier and Clark Gillies. In his first season, Bossy scored an all-time rookie record of 53 goals and chalked up a total of 92 points to win the Calder Trophy. Mike holds the NHL record for the most 50-or-more goal seasons(9). On top of that, he has four Stanley Cup rings to his credit. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1991 and had his number retired by the Islanders.
