Tina Thompson

As a starter on the All-Star-filled squad that was named the 2004 USA Basketball Team of the Year, Thompson trailed only three-time Olympian Lisa Leslie in the scoring column (14.1 ppg.) and also grabbed a team third best 5.0 rpg. She capped her Olympic experience as the USA's leading scorer in the 66-62 semifinal victory over Russia with 14 points and again topped the list with 18 against Australia in the gold medal final. An All-American at the University of Southern California, Thompson was the No. 1 pick of the Houston Comets in the 1997 WNBA Draft, making her the first draft pick in league history. She has been a member of the Comets ever since, aiding her club to four WNBA titles (1997, 1998, 1999, 2000) and collecting All-WNBA first (1997, 1998) or second team (1999, 2000, 2001, 2002) honors in each of her first six years. In assisting the Houston Comets to their four WNBA titles and seven straight postseason appearances, Thompson averaged 12.7 ppg. and 7.1 rpg. overall during 27 WNBA playoff games (1998-2003).
