Bobby Abreu

Joe Adcock

Joe was a power-hitting first baseman for Milwaukee Braves who teamed up with Hank Aaron and Eddie Matthews in an extraordinarily powerful lineup of the 1950's, established the major-league record for total bases in a game (18) when he hit four home runs and a double against the Dodgers at Ebbets Field on July 31, 1954. Hit 336 career home runs and batted .277 over 17 seasons with the Reds, Braves, Indians and Angels. He also managed Cleveland to an eighth-place finish in 1967. He died of natural causes (had Alzheimer's disease) on May 3, 1999

Doyle Alexander

Doyle Alexander moved around enough to become the fourth pitcher to record wins over all 26 teams. He became increasingly effective late in his career, by developing an assortment of pitches, speeds, and deliveries, and relying more on guile and control than overpowering stuff. In 1985 he won 17 games for the second season in a row, including the game that clinched the AL East pennant on the last day of the season. Traded to Detroit for John Smoltz midway through the 1987 season, in what looked to be a bad trade for the Braves, Alexander had a 1.53 ERA and a 9-0 record in an exciting pennant race for the Tigers, including two dramatic victories over the Blue Jays in the final days of the season. Often a slow starter, he had a surprisingly good first half in 1988, earning his first All-Star selection. Alexander retired after a 6-18 campaign in 1989 with 194 victories.

Gene Autry

AL baseball in California was all set to begin as the Angels took the field for their first game ever on April 11th, 1961 as one of the first expansion teams in 60 years.. Gene Autry, who made a name of himself as "The Singing Cowboy" in westerns, owned the expansion team. When Autry's Angels took the field that 1st day in Baltimore with a mixture of unproven rookies and veteran castoffs in the very 1st Inning Ted Kluszewski connected for a 2-run homer to give the Halos an early lead. Big Klu would hit another 2-run homer later in the game as the Angels won their first game 7-2. Despite the promising start the Angels would never be a factor in the pennant race. However, with their 71-91 record remains the best finish for an expansion team's first year
